It's funny they have the complete works of Shakespeare, then they also have Hamlet listed.

Annetrelac Socks

Yeah, I have really pale legs.
A U.S. government-funded medical information site that bills itself as the world's largest database on reproductive health has quietly begun to block searches on the word "abortion," concealing nearly 25,000 search results.

The icing was a little runnier than it should have been, but by the time I got to that part I was ready to be done.
I cooked half for about 15 minutes, which made them more of a snap consistency, and the other half for 10 minutes, which made them softer. I was worried that the first batch would be too hard, but they softened up after a day.
All in all, I really love the results and will probably add these to my holiday baking list.

Sorry for the crappy picture, it's hard to photograph fish! Bill's sister and BIL wanted to get rid of their fish tank and Bill has been looking for one for a while. We set it up this afternoon and these two goldfish are our "tester" fish. Hopefully, they'll make it. Crazy Leon (the calico) is named after this shady used car salesman who sold Bill this old bronco that he bought less than a week after I moved to Ohio. I wish I had the whole story written down somewhere, but I wasn't journaling over here at this point. I may not have even been journaling at WC. Anyway, he was totally shady...hence the name.
Also, some adorable photos of Dakota from Thanksgiving:

See that bag? She MADE it and it fits a small project. It's got my latest in it right now. She also sent me two skeins of bamboo yarn...I've never tried knitting with bamboo before, some homemade stitch markers, some stationery, and some yummy candies! My wonderful spoiler is Ellie from desceptivelypackaged. She has an etsy store where she sells her stitch markers.

I also wanted to come in and wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving, because we are leaving shortly for the ILs and I'm not sure when I'll be back online. Even though this year hasn't gone exactly the way I had planned on it going, I've got a lot to be thankful for and I count my LJ friends high on that list. =) So thank you for being my friends!

another pair of mitts, this time with a matching hat (made from The Knittery merino/cashmere sock yarn)

this will be a tea cozy, that I've actually already finished, but haven't taken any pictures of it (made from Socks That Rock heavyweight sock yarn)

I made a couple mistakes on the cables and didn't notice until I took the picture. There's one mistake on each glove. I'll definitely be making these again, they're a quick, satisfying knit and they look fantastic. These are knit with Claudia Hand Painted yarn fingering in the Buckeye colorway.

So. Being the person that I am, I don't like dwelling, so I've started thinking about what I want to do in the meantime. I've decided that I'm going to do some volunteer work in some capacity, what I'm not sure right now. I was thinking about volunteering with an adult literacy group, but I'd almost prefer to work with children. Maybe I'll become a big sister? We'll see...I'm still gathering ideas on this one.
The other thing I've decided to do is to really get to know my city. There is a surprising amount of stuff to do here, and it is so easy to fall into a routine. Much of this exploration will probably be done on my own, seeing as Bill works 60 - 70 hours a week. As such, I started this little endeavor today. I decided to explore a couple of local Asian grocery stores. I didn't know this, but apparently there are a bunch of really good options in Columbus to get hard to find ingredients.
First, I went to Tensuke Market, a Japanese specialty store and apparently the place in Columbus to get fresh fish--especially sashimi grade fish. Yum! They also make their own sushi which is reasonably priced, so I picked up some for us tonight. Second, I went to Columbus Asian Market which I had read had a wide selection of dim sum. Oh, boy did they....I got some potstickers, shrimp shu mai, and bbq pork steam buns (my favorite). I also bought some sauces: hot sauce, chili sauce, tempura dipping sauce, and a couple others.
My third stop for the day was Pistacia Vera in German Village. I've been wanting to stop here for months, ever since I read about it in Columbus Monthly. OMG! It is this fabulous little dessert boutique that makes the most incredible sweets. I ended up buying a muscato chocolate bombe, a pistachio cheesecake, and a lemon tart with pine nuts. I've already eaten the lemon tart and it was beyond incredible. The custard was almost like lemon curd, the flavor was intense and it was just sweet enough. The pine nuts were toasted and crunchy and went perfectly with the lemon. I'm saving the other two for tonight when Bill gets home. I can't wait to go back!

A couple of other things:
-- We've been experimenting with leaving Dakota uncrated when we leave. It's gone pretty well so far. The one exception was yesterday when I left for class. When Bill got home, he found about 20 empty candy wrappers on the dog's rug. Apparently, he figured out that he could open the individual packets and eat the candy. I had left them on the counter in the kitchen thinking that since they were not open, he would leave them alone. The funny part was that instead of eating them all over the place, he at them on his rug, which is where we have trained him to eat his treats. He puked while I was gone this morning and there were bits of candy wrapper in it. I hope this doesn't continue...
-- After a couple of chilly nights and some frost, the weather is warming up. I've been noticing bugs again.
-- I have more tomatoes than I know what to do with. Ideas, anyone?

Here's a close up on the detail:

I've started something for myself: Stulpen Handmitts in Claudia Hand Painted yarn in the Buckeye colorway. A pic is upcoming...#2 is almost finished.
House Meme
2. How much would you increase if possible? I’d like larger bathrooms, a basement, and one or two additional rooms, so an extra 800 – 1000 square feet would be nice
3. How many bedrooms do you have? 3 - one is an office and the other is a guest room
4. How many bedrooms would you like to have? Four
5. What are the top 3 updates you would make to your home? Pergo floors in the kitchen/dining room (this house isn’t good enough for hardwood), master bath remodel, tile or pergo in the foyer.
6. What do you like best about your home that you would not change? Our neighbors are awesome and I really like the landscaping we’ve done.
7. What would you change about your kitchen? Pergo, new appliances, finish painting
8. What would you change about your bathroom(s)? Our master bath is TINY. They didn’t make good use of the space. I also hate the shower liners, I’d want to tile the master bath shower.
9. What would you change about your exterior? Not much…I wouldn’t mind putting a few more trees in.
10. If money were no object and you had the choice of moving or updating your current home, what would you choose? Oh, I would move in a heartbeat. This house is nice for now, but isn’t constructed very well and it just doesn’t have as much space as we want when we eventually have kids.

No yarn-y goodness this time, but she fed my cookbook addiction with one of Nigella's...and one that I don't have! Woot! I also got some sinfully delicious Scharffen Berger chocolate...one of my faves. SP--If you are ever in CA, you should try to get to the Scharffen Berger factory for a tour. I grew up just over an hour from Berkeley, and it is definitely worthwhile. Also, thank you for the lovely glass bead bracelet that you sent a few weeks ago. One of the beads ended up breaking, but it is still very wearable and I do so often.

I have pictures from camping this weekend and need to do a more detailed update when I have time, but now I have to get ready for class tonight.
Oh--one other bit of news...I have a phone interview scheduled for tomorrow. Also, there is another job at that looks interesting at the company my neighbor works at, so I'm going to try and fanagle something using that connection.

I knit this with Lorna's Laces Shepard Sock in red rover.
Here is a picture of the almost white paint in our dining room:

The color is really bad, but you can kind of tell the difference between the two walls and the ceiling. Only the wall taking up most of the picture has been painted.
Last night I was going to say that my class was getting less hard, but that was until I attempted assignment number 3. I either completely over thought it, or completely under thought it. I'm not sure which. I can't wait until this one is over.
My family and my ILs are coming out here for Christmas. My ILs will drive down for a dinner on the 23rd, so we could have as many as 12 people in the house. I've been thinking about doing a pork roast...but I'm undecided. Do any of you have any favorite non-turkey holiday dishes that are cost effective? I'm already going to make my cornbread sausage stuffing as a side and my mom will load us up on the veggies. If I don't do a pork roast (or turkey or ham), what should I do?

and

His head is actually resting on the windowsill.

I knit it using Handmaiden 4-ply cashmere yarn which is amazingly soft. I had originally planned on keeping this for myself, but since I don't know how long it is going to take to get a job, I'm going to give this to someone who will treasure it, since I won't be able to afford to buy a gift like this in its stead.
Yesterday we went to an air show at Rickenbacker Airport, which used to be exclusively a military airport. It included an amazing collection of P-51 Mustangs and other historical airplanes. There was a demonstration by the Thunderbirds, and a flyby from a B-2 bomber. Both of us took a ton of pictures and once I sort through those I'll post some. We had a ton of fun and it was well worth the crowds to see the show.
Today we've done some household chores and made a Costco run. We stocked up on all sorts of freezer supplies: pork, chicken, and some beef. I've also promised Bill that I'll make his lunches, so we got some lunch goodies and some fresh veggies. We make great use out of our vacuum sealer after a Costco run, this meat should last us a long time.
I'm hoping we get at least another week of warm weather, so my tomatoes can ripen enough to be picked. Like last year, there are a TON currently on the vines and we're already past when we had our first frost. Here's hoping.
If I have time this week, I'm going to paint the guest room. That includes tearing down the last border in the house, left over from the previous owners. It's a patriotic border and believe it or not, was the least offensive of all the borders that they left. The only other thing we will have to deal with (other than painting the living room/dining room) is the stensil in the office.
OK, I started my homework yesterday and have been procrastinating on the rest of it all day, so I need to get down to it. I hope everyone had a great weekend!
